With multiple state parks and reserves nearby, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, or taking in the surrounding landscapes.

Mississippi Palisades State Park

Overlooking the Mississippi River, Mississippi Palisades State Park is known for its dramatic cliffs, scenic overlooks, and miles of hiking trails.


What To Do

Visitors can explore more than 15 miles of hiking trails that wind through forests, ravines, and bluff-top viewpoints. Popular activities include birdwatching, wildlife photography, picnicking, and taking in panoramic views of the Mississippi River from several scenic overlooks throughout the park.

Apple River Canyon State Park

Situated above the Mississippi River near Galena, Casper Bluff Land & Water Reserve combines natural beauty with significant Native American and archaeological history.

Visitors can hike scenic trails that pass through restored prairie landscapes, woodlands, and bluff-top overlooks with views of the Mississippi River Valley. Interpretive signs throughout the reserve provide insight into the area's cultural history, including ancient Native American mound sites.
